The study work to be published must be written on a relevant System Engineering topic to be chosen by the applicant. Characteristics of relevant topics are multidisciplinary and/or thinking in systems and their life cycles. The proposed topics are to be submitted to SE-TREC GmbH prior to commencement, together with a declaration of consent from the applicant regarding the passing on of the topic to the experts (SE-ZERT® assessors). The paper should comprise a total of 15 to 30 DIN A4 pages, including a summary of 1 page. The study work must include an annex with a self-reflection "Examination of one's own personality and behavior in dealing with others" of 1-2 pages. The appendix serves to check whether the contents of module 9 (soft skills) have been mastered. It will be included in the expert discussion but will not be published.

The study work is returned in written form with notes and comments as preparation for the technical discussion. The study work should be revised (e.g. formatting) and resubmitted within 4 weeks on the basis of feedback from the experts so that they are ready for publication. If the requirements for revision or the time period are not met, the examination is deemed to have been failed. There is no entitlement to interview.

An examination committee of the certification body is convened for the subsequent assessment (interview). It consists of at least two experts (SE-ZERT® assessors) and the chairman to be appointed by SE-TREC GmbH.

The interview is evaluated by the experts. The chairperson leads the interview. The interview lasts 60 minutes and is primarily conducted virtually. If no travel costs are incurred due to joint participation in workshops or conferences, the interview can also be conducted on site by arrangement. If the candidate insists on an on-site examination, the travel expenses of the examination committee must be paid.
